Hello folks, since this is my first ever blog post I’ll
introduce you to myself. My name is Theekshana (commonly known as Tikka by my
mates) and I’m a proud Sri Lankan from Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte. (Check my
Google+ account if you want to know more). I recently turned 21 years old,
which is the legal age in Sri Lanka to buy alcohol and tobacco products. (Pretty
lousy fucking idea whoever came up with that) I don’t know why we can’t just be
like other countries and accept 18 year olds as “adults”. Well I really don’t care
because I've been doing all the “adult” things since I was 15, and I've had my
fair share of mischief as a kid. I’m sure you have had the same experience,
maybe even more.
The reason I thought of posting about becoming an “adult” is because it is
considered as a new chapter in your life. y’know, like you gotta stop all the irresponsible
shit you've been doing so far and put on the big shoes and take
responsibilities and act “matured”. But hey,
I may be 21 but I still love doing all the crazy shit I’ve been doing for the
past 21 years. It’s not just only me;
each and every one of us got that inner kid who wants to take life in a less
serious way.
It’s been about a week or so since I turned 21, I guess a week is not a long
time to get into a conclusion what being an adult is all about. I KNOW! But
I’m assuming that inner kid inside us will never “grow up” I could be wrong. Who
the fuck am I to judge? I’m still 21! Yet I feel 12. But I am feeling that I have
“matured” a teeny tiny bit. Do you remember when you couldn't wait to be a
grownup when you were a kid? I wish I could go back and slap myself each time I
wanted to be a grownup. It’s true that I
can drive a car, vote in an election etc. (whom am I kidding? Does my vote even
matter? This is Sri Lanka! Lol) but is it really worth?
Here I am looking forward to what life has to throw at me, and I know it isn't going
to be a joy ride. So I’ll gladly catch whatever comes in my way and make the
best of it. For all you youngsters out there all I can say is have fun to the
maximum, because you won’t get your teen years back again, and while having fun
please stay outta trouble. As once one
of my uncles told me “The most amazing moments you've had in your youth are the
ones you will cherish for the rest of your life” It’s definitely something to
think about!
Till we meet again.
Theekshana.
